Having committed $11.5 billion to the development of 40 new hybrids, PHEVs, and BEVs, Ford is obviously serious about bringing electric cars to the market. The Mustang Mach-E, which releases in the fall of this year, is the automaker’s first example of a pure all-electric Ford. In addition, the Mach-E will also be the first SUV to carry the Mustang name.
The Mach-E will be available in four trims, namely Select, Premium, California Route 1, and GT. In addition, there’ll also be a limited First Edition version — that has already been fully reserved — and a GT Performance Edition, which will be made available at a later stage. Here’s some information on what to expect from this performance-focused, all-electric SUV.
EV Powertrains
The Mach-E will be available with either rear- or all-wheel drive and a choice of two battery sizes. The smaller 75.7-kWh battery will deliver an EPA range of around 230 miles, whereas the 98.9-kWh extended-range battery pack will deliver a range of around 300 miles. Rear-wheel-drive models with the standard battery will produce 255 horsepower, whereas those with the extended battery pack will deliver 282 horsepower. If you opt for an all-wheel-drive model with the 75.7kWh battery, you’ll get 255 horsepower and with the extended battery pack, 332 horsepower.
Mustang Design
The Mach-E is the first Ford based on Ford’s Global Electric Architecture, which is an EV platform that makes for excellent vehicle dynamics. On the outside, the Mach-E boasts many classic Mustang style elements, including a long hood, a sloping roof, short overhangs, and vertical rear lights.
With the Mach-E comes a trunk in the front, otherwise referred to as a frunk, which provides 4.8 cubic feet of space. This area is big enough to accommodate a compact roller bag, or you can use it as an icebox as it features a drain. Another noticeable design element is the lack of door handles on the Mach-E, as the doors open through pushbuttons.
Spacious and Modern Interior
The cabin of the Mach-E is roomy and provides plenty of leg- and headroom for up to five passengers. Apart from the 4.8 cubic feet cargo area in the frunk, the rear trunk provides 29 cubic feet of space. Smaller items can conveniently be stowed in the upper shelf and open lower area of the console on the front floorboard.
A super-large 15.5-inch control screen is featured in the center of the dash, which will feature Ford’s latest iteration of the Sync infotainment system. This system, according to Ford, is as intuitive as a smartphone and also intelligent enough to learn driver preferences and tastes over time. Standard equipment will include a wireless charging pad, a Wi-Fi hot spot, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and navigation.
Although the Mustang Mach-E is an all-electric SUV, you will not lose out on performance or any creature comforts. Featuring powerful and super-fast powertrains, a spacious and comfortable cabin, and state-of-the-art technology, the Mach-E delivers in all aspects. When this amazing modern SUV hits the market later this year, drop by Loganville Ford to take one for a spin.
