The Ford F-150 has long been a staple of American-made trucks. People are drawn to these vehicles for their engine performance, towing capacity, and wonderful utility. This has been a strength of Ford trucks for decades, and the new 2018 model is shaping up to continue this tradition. Here’s a closer look at what Ford has changed, updated, and added to the F-150 for the 2018 model year.
Specs for the New 2018 Ford F-150
The Ford F-150 is a full-size, rear-wheel-drive, light-duty pickup. The 2018 model has an MSRP starting at $27,380, and its standard features include a V6 Flux Fuel 3.3 Liter engine capable of 290 horsepower and a SelectShift 6-Speed Automatic Mode Select with Manual Mode transmission. Drivers who pick up this truck will also enjoy Ford’s most advanced version of its powertrain technology, as well as several new exterior and interior features and a range of new engine options.
Exterior Features
Ford has rolled out a few aesthetic changes for its new trucks. This includes:
- A new two-bar grille (as opposed to the triple-bar design on the 2017 model), which has been shown on the XL 2WD Short Bed Regular Cab trim. Different options will likely be available on other builds.
- A minor design tweak has been made to the 2018’s headlights, with an LED accent now separating the high and low beams. The tail lights have also been slightly redesigned; they now include two separate LED frames to distinguish the upper and lower lights.
- Six new wheel design options are available on select trims.
- A new tailgate applique or a new F-150 badge is available depending on the trim level you select.
The new F-150’s body weighs a maximum of 700 pounds. The lighter body allows for more power, but the high-quality alloys and steel used in the body ensures this is done without compromising the integrity of the truck.
Interior Features
In addition to reworking the body, a few technology and entertainment upgrades have rolled out with the 2018 model. These include:
- A stereo upgrade to a Bang & Olufsen system on higher-level trims.
- Upgrades to the adaptive cruise control system (which can now bring the driver to a complete stop) and to the forward collision warning system (which can now detect pedestrians).
- A data subscription to a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot is available on the 2018 F-150.
Engine Features
There are also some exciting new changes to the engine for the new F-150. V-6, V-8, and — for the first time — Diesel V-6 options are available (the latter is a turbo-diesel 3.0-liter V-6 engine). The 2017’s 3.5-liter engine is also upgraded to a 3.3-liter V-6. The EcoBoost 2.7-liter V-6 and 5.0-liter Ti-VCT V-8 are updated for the new model as well. A 450-horsepower 3.5-liter EcoBoost is available in the 2018 F-150 Raptor.
Ford has made many exciting exterior, interior, and engine changes to the new F-150. If you’re on the fence about whether those additions and adjustments are worth considering an upgrade of your own, check out one of these vehicles in person. A test drive will help you decide whether this new truck is for you.
