Explore the Attractions at Stone Mountain Park
Stone Mountain Park covers 3,200 acres and is considered the most popular attraction in the state. It’s a great place for families who want a short vacation away from home. Some of the activities to enjoy include a tour of the Confederate Hall Historical and Environmental Education Center to learn more about the history and geology of Stone Mountain, or the Historic Square to view some of Georgia’s oldest homes and buildings built between 1793 and 1875.
For some exciting outdoor fun, take to the sky with the Summit Skyride, which travels 825 feet above ground on a high-speed Swiss cable car to the top of Stone Mountain. You can also visit Geyser Towers with its spouting geyser, net tunnels, suspended rope bridges, and high platforms for a thrilling adventure.
Other attractions to add to your list include Dinosaur Explore, which features more than 20 life-size robotic dinosaurs that move and roar, and the Confederate Memorial Carving depicting notable figures like Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, and Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson.
You can also enjoy Stone Mountain Park all-year round with seasonal festivals and events, including the Easter Sunrise Service in the spring, the Memorial Day celebration in summer, the Yellow Daisy Festival in the fall, and Stone Mountain Christmas in the winter.
Visit the Historic Stone Mountain Village
With a history dating back to 1822, Stone Mountain Village is a great place to explore the rich history of the area. It’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places and features a quaint, 1915 wooden caboose which houses the Visitor Center.
With more than 50 specialty shops and restaurants situated around the Village, you can easily stock up on goodies and grab a bite to eat. What’s more, it’s located just outside of Stone Mountain Park, so you can take advantage of the nearby attractions as well.
Enjoy an Outdoor Adventure at Yellow River Park
If you and your family want to take in the fresh air and gorgeous scenic views of Georgia, Yellow River Park is the place to be. This area spans over 691 acres with plenty of opportunities for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. It also features a pavilion, picnic area, public restrooms, and playgrounds.
With the park’s abundant riverside banks, terraced waterfall, and wooden observation deck that yields lovely views of the Yellow River, there are plenty of ways for you and your family to take in the natural wonders and picture-worthy landscapes of Stone Mountain.
