The Ford Fusion is a midsize sedan that comes well-equipped with safety features and the latest technology. Ford offers the SE trim in both the Energi model and in a hybrid. Here are some details about both to help you decide which one is right for you.
The Fusion Hybrid
The Fusion Hybrid is a midsize sedan with a comfortable interior and room for up to five passengers. It comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that Ford pairs with two electric motors, and front wheel drive. It has a lithium-ion battery pack loaded in the trunk to power the electric motors. The combination of the engine and motors produces 188 horsepower, and you won’t even feel the transition from electric to gas since Ford designed it to move seamlessly from one to the other.
The Fusion Energi
The Energi has the same look and passenger space as the hybrid and it comes with the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors. The Energi plug-in hybrid has a larger battery pack in the trunk which creates a smaller cargo space, and it also distinguishes itself from the regular hybrid with its charging port on the front-left fender. Plug a completely depleted Energi into a 240-volt Level 2 charging station and it will completely charge in three to four hours. Plug it into a household plug and it will take about seven hours to charge.
Range
The Fusion hybrid will get 43 miles per gallon in the city and 41 mpg on the highway with 42 mpg combined. The plug-in Energi will get 42 miles per gallon when it runs in hybrid mode and it has an electric range of 22 miles. You can expect a total range of 97 MPGe with the Energi.
The SE Trim
The SE trim is the base model for the Energi, while the hybrid version has a lower level S trim. The SE for both models comes with the standard 4.2-inch display screen and the SYNC infotainment system. Ford makes several packages available if you want to upgrade. Add the Cold Weather Package for heated front seats and side mirrors, or add the Technology Package to get the upgraded version of the SYNC 3 system with extra features. The Technology package also adds rear parking assist, and it upgrades the stereo system.
Safety Systems
Both the standard hybrid version and the plug-in hybrid Fusion come standard with a rearview camera and a rear parking assist system. They also have Ford’s MyKey system which allows parents to set parameters for secondary or teen drivers. You can add additional safety systems such as adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, and lane departure warning with lane keep assist. Ford also makes a blind-spot monitoring system available along with both parallel and perpendicular parking assist systems.
Both the Ford Fusion Hybrid and the Ford Fusion Energi have a lot to offer. They both have the same amount of power, but the Energi will get you a little further without having to recharge or gas up.
